St. Mary's Center for Education
The St. Mary's Medical Center for Education is a shining star in the tri-state region and in the world of health care education. This state-of-the-art facility is in complete and is providing quality education to the finest health care professionals and students in the area.
The long-standing traditions of excellence within the St. Mary's educational programs are enhanced by the capabilities and opportunities within the walls of the new St. Mary's Center for Education. Throughout the center students and visitors are able to enhance their education through some of the many amenities.
The 58,000 square foot, $10 million dollar facility includes all the teaching and practicum needs of today's health care Since the start of the capital campaign to develop the Center for Education in 2006, we received more than $4.5 million in pledges and contributions from the private sector, and an additional $1.4 million in federal funding.
The benefits expected from this project are considerable for the many communities in southern West Virginia. This facility provides us the opportunity to increase enrollment in an effort to narrow the gap in the impending nursing shortage. It also serves as a center for distance learning and offers students the latest in training technologies, such as incredibly lifelike human patient simulators. These simulators enhance the traditional methods of teaching and develop students' clinical and critical thinking skills in a safe environment without risk to real patients.
Our donors' commitment and financial support of the Center for Education is very significant. They have made this project a reality, and their investment will not only improve the delivery of health care, but provide great job opportunities for residents in our community now and for future generations.
