In the summer of 1924, eight Pallottine Missionary Sisters arrived in Huntington, West Virginia, to carry on their mission of providing quality health care that respects the God-given dignity of each person and the sacredness of human life. More than 80 years later, St. Mary’s Medical Center continues its mission through its quality of care and the support of its members, longtime friends and volunteers. To ensure that the medical center will continue its healing ministry for future generations, St. Mary’s Medical Center Foundation is creating an endowment, a perpetual fund whose income provides essential financial support for all aspects of St. Mary’s Medical Center. An important planned giving program strengthens an endowment so St. Mary’s will remain vital and strong.

The St. Mary’s Legacy

Friends, members and volunteers who make legacy gifts to St. Mary’s Medical Center Foundation in their estate plans play a key role in our fiscal stability. Their gifts build the endowment. We recognize the commitment of these visionary donors by extending to them membership in The St. Mary’s Legacy.

The St. Mary’s Legacy was created to honor its members for their commitment to the health of our region. St. Mary’s Legacy members understand the critical need to strengthen St. Mary’s Medical Center’s future by providing gifts that will support outreach programs, clinical training and new health services to the tri-state area. They extend the support that they have given St. Mary’s —through a lifetime of membership, gifts and volunteer hours—far into the future.

Gifts from St. Mary’s Legacy members through their wills, trusts or other estate gifts ensure the continued vitality and development of St. Mary’s from one generation to the next. In becoming St. Mary’s Legacy members, they make an extraordinary gift to their loved ones and to our community.

A careful review of your assets will identify the best way to make a gift, whether it is the gift of a specific asset, such as real estate; a percentage of your total estate; or an amount for a special project or fund. Donors often find that planned gifts enable them to use assets that might otherwise be lost to estate, income or capital gains taxation to support St. Mary’s. This legacy is a lasting memorial to their values and interests.

We would be pleased to assist you at any time and can provide free, no-obligation estate planning materials to supplement your professional resources. Please contact David Sheils, President of St. Mary’s Medical Center Foundation, at 304-526-1211 or dsheils@st-marys.org.
