SMMC Foundation Receives Grants

The St. Mary's Medical Center Foundation is excited to announce they have recently received three grants to further efforts towards improving the health and education of communities served by the medical center.

The Board of Trustees for the Prichard School awarded the Foundation a $10,000 grant focused on the H.E.A.R.T. program. The H.E.A.R.T. (Helping Educators Attack Cardiovascular Risk Factors Together) program is an elementary school-based heart disease and obesity prevention program with the goal of preventing the development of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obesity in West Virginia children and their families through nutritional education and physical activity.

Additionally, the Foundation received a $10,000 grant from the Bernard McDonough Foundation for robotic remote diagnostic equipment. This equipment allows physician specialists, such as neurologists, to remotely assist in the care and treatment of patients in rural West Virginia. St. Mary's Medical Center provides telemedicine services in four rural communities in West Virginia to improve access to specialty care and reduce unnecessary medical transportation.

Finally, the Foundation received $2,500 from the South Point (Ohio) Youth Soccer League for the Pink Ribbon Fund. The league hosted a tournament last fall to raise funds for assisting uninsured and underinsured women receive mammograms.

The Foundation is extremely grateful for all the grant awards.
